Parable of the Lost Sheep
(Matt 18:12-14)
Now all the tax collectors and the sinners were approaching him to hear him. | Now all the tax collectors and the sinners were approaching him to hear him. |
Both the Pharisees and the scribes began to grumble, saying, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” | Both the Pharisees and the scribes began to grumble, saying, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” |
So he told them this parable, saying, | So he told them this parable, saying, |
“What man among you, having a hundred sheep and after losing one of them, doesn’t leave the ninety-nine in the grassland and go after the lost one until he finds it? | “What man among you, having a hundred sheep and after losing one of them, doesn’t leave the ninety-nine in the grassland and go after the lost one until he finds it? |
And after finding it, he puts it upon his shoulders, rejoicing. | And after finding it, he puts it upon his shoulders, rejoicing. |
And after coming into the house, he summons his friends and his neighbours, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ | And after coming into the house, he summons his friends and his neighbours, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ |
I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who don’t need repentance. | I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who don’t need repentance. |
Parable of the Lost Coin
“Or what woman, if she has ten drachma coins and loses one drachma coin, doesn’t light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? | “Or what woman, if she has ten drachma coins and loses one drachma coin, doesn’t light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? |
After finding it, she calls together her friends and neighbours, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma coin which I had lost!’ | After finding it, she calls together her friends and neighbours, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma coin which I had lost!’ |
In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” | In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” |

The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate that falls to me.’ So he divided his livelihood between them. | The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate that falls to me.’ So he divided his livelihood between them. |
And not many days later, after gathering everything together, the younger son visited a disant country, and there he squandered his estate with dissolute living. | And not many days later, after gathering everything together, the younger son visited a disant country, and there he squandered his estate with dissolute living. |
Now when he had spent all, a severe famine occurred in that country, and he began to be destitute. | Now when he had spent all, a severe famine occurred in that country, and he began to be destitute. |

And he craved to be filled from the husks that the pigs were eating, and no one was giving anything to him. | And he craved to fill his stomach from the husks that the pigs were eating, and no one was giving anything to him. |
But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have an abundance of loaves, but I am dying here with hunger! | But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have an abundance of loaves, but I am dying with hunger! |
After getting up, I will go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your presence; | After getting up, I will go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your presence; |
