(LXX 38)

To the chief Musician, even to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David.
For the end, to Idithun, a song ascribed to David. | For the end, to Idithun, a song ascribed to David. |
1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I don’t sin with my tongue; I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.
1
1
I said, I will guard my ways, that I may not sin with my tongue; I placed a guard on my mouth, when the sinner unites before me. |

I said, I will guard my ways, that I may not sin with my tongue; I placed a guard on my mouth, when the sinner unites before me. |
2 I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.
2 I became mute and was humbled, and I was silent from good things, and my pain was renewed; | 2 I became mute and was humbled, and I was silent from good things, and my pain was renewed; |
3 My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned; then I spoke with my tongue,

4 Yahweh, make me to know my end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.
4 Make known to me, Oh Lord, my limit, and the number of my days, what it is; in order that I may know what I lack. | 4 Make known to me, Oh Lord, my limit, and the number of my days, what it is; in order that I may know what I lack. |
5 Behold, you have made my days as a handbreadth; and my age is as nothing before you; verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

6 Surely every man walks in a vain show; surely they are disquieted in vain; he heaps up riches, and doesn’t know who shall gather them.
6 Surely, a man walks through as an apparition. However, they are disturbed in vain. He stores treasure and doesn’t know for whom he will gather them. | 6 Surely, a man walks through as an apparition. However, they are disturbed in vain. 7 And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in you.

8 Deliver me from all my transgressions; make me not the reproach of the foolish.
8 From all my acts of lawlessness rescue me! You have given me as a reproach to a fool. | 8 From all my acts of lawlessness rescue me! You have given me as a reproach to a fool. |
9 I was mute, I opened not my mouth; because you did it.
9 I was mute, and I didn’t open my mouth, because it is you who made me. | 9 I was mute, and I didn’t open my mouth, because it is you who did it. |
10 Remove your stroke away from me; I am consumed by the blow of your hand.

11 When you with rebukes correct man for iniquity, you make his beauty to consume away like a moth; surely every man is vanity. Selah.

11 With corrections for lawlessness you disciplined a man and melted his soul like a spider’s web; surely, every man is in trouble for nothing. | 11 With corrections for lawlessness you disciplined a man and melted his soul like a spider’s web; surely, every man is in trouble for nothing. |
12 Hear my prayer, Oh Yahweh, and give ear to my cry; hold not your peace at my tears; for I am a stranger with you, and a resident, as all my fathers were.

13 Oh spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.
13 Let me be, in order that I may revive before I depart and exist no more. | 13 Let me be, in order that I may revive before I depart and exist no more. |
