While he was in Bethany at the home of Simōn the leper, and reclining at a meal, a woman came with an alabaster container of very expensive perfume of pure nard; she broke the alabaster container and poured it on his head. | While he was in Bethany at the home of Simōn the leper, and reclining at a meal, a woman came with an alabaster container of very expensive perfume of pure nard; she broke the alabaster container and poured it upon his head. |
But some were being indignant among themselves, “Why has this perfume become wasted? | But some were being indignant among themselves and saying, “Why has this perfume become wasted? |
For this perfume might have been sold for more than 300 denarii, and given to the poor.” And they were scolding her. | For this perfume might have been sold for more than 300 denarii, and given to the poor.” And they were scolding her. |
But Jesus said, “Let her alone; why do you bother her? She has done a good deed to me. | But Jesus said, “Let her alone; why do you bother her? She has done a good deed to me. |
For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them; but you don’t always have me. | For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them; but you don’t always have me. |
She has done what she could; she came before my burial to anoint my body. | She has done what she could; she came before my burial to anoint my body. |
Truly I say to you, wherever the good news is preached in the whole world, what this woman did will also be spoken of for a memory of her.” | Truly I say to you, wherever the good news is preached in the whole world, what this woman did will also be spoken of for a memory of her.” |
